Lone Tree Brewing and Wild Woods Brewery Craft Birch Bark Kölsch for National Arbor Day

These tree-themed breweries teamed up to brew a beer with bark from Birch trees, a native Colorado tree, in the boil. The Arbor Day Kölsch will tap at both breweries on Arbor Day, Friday, April 28.

LONE TREE, CO— Last week Lone Tree Brewing Company hosted Wild Woods Brewery from Boulder to brew a Kölsch-style beer with Birch tree bark in honor of the upcoming National Arbor Day, a holiday observed to celebrate the importance of trees.

These tree-themed breweries teamed up to brew a beer with bark from Birch trees, a native Colorado tree, in the boil. This addition should impart subtle earthy flavors and fresh herb aromatics, say head brewers Josh West (Lone Tree) and Jake Evans (Wild Woods).

The Arbor Day Kölsch will tap at both breweries on Arbor Day, Friday, April 28. Both breweries plan to pass out seedlings to customers and encourage them to post tree-planting photos on social media using the hashtag #ArborDayBrew.

DENVER, CO — The fifth release of Station 26 Brewing Co.’s canned Single Hop IPA series is now available in six packs across the Colorado Front Range and on draft at the brewery’s taproom in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood.

Each version of Station 26’s ever-evolving Single Hop Series utilizes a different hop for a unique IPA experience. The current batch features Mandarina Bavaria hops grown in the Hallertau region of Germany. Single Hop Mandarina Bavaria IPA clocks in at 6.8% ABV, 70 IBUs, and 8 SRM.

This beer pours deep gold and features notes of mandarin orange zest, honeydew melon, and noble hop character. Grab some before it’s gone because cans of this limited release beer will only be available through the end of April.

Deerhammer Distilling Produces Record Numbers, Announces Progeny Series

BUENA VISTA, CO —  Last year, Deerhammer Distilling produced more handcrafted spirits than ever before and experienced record growth in sales, which are up by 262 percent statewide, among other milestones.

Here is Deerhammer Distilling’s 2016 Year In Review

In 2016, Deerhammer distilled 6,217 gallons of whiskey. The majority of this volume represents the distillery’s flagship product Single Malt Whiskey. Deerhammer only distributes its spirits in the state of Colorado.

Last year Deerhammer reinvigorated its package with new glass bottles that have a traditional whiskey shape with sleek curvature. The new label designs are cleaner and bolder, with incorporated visual elements that commemorate why Deerhammer crafts whiskey in Buena Vista— including compass points on each corner to highlight the distillery’s rugged mountain surroundings. Also included in the new design is a small illustration of nearby Mount Princeton, river waves, wind, and diamond trailhead markers. The new labels were designed by Tim Praetzel out of Austin, Texas.

Looking Ahead

Next month at the Colorado Brewers Guild’s Collaboration Fest, Locavore Beer Works and Aquanaut Brewing will serve a beer that was aged in Deerhammer Single Malt Whiskey barrels. Look for more details about this beer on Deerhammer’s Facebook page.

Next for Deerhammer is the roll out of the Progeny Series, a lineup of small-batch spirits created through inspired partnerships with other crafters in Colorado, including a whiskey and chocolate pairing with Cultura Chocolate, and other collaborations with Wit’s End Brewing Company, Call To Arms Brewing, Crooked Stave, and Colorado Cider Company.

ARVADA, CO — The famed Yak & Yeti Brewpub, recognized as one of Colorado’s best Indian, Nepalese, and Tibetan food restaurants and known for its award-winning beers, today announced its rebrand as Spice Trade Brewing.

Under the brewing direction of Head Brewer Jeff Tyler (pictured), Spice Trade will be a stand-alone brewery operating out of Yak & Yeti’s Restaurant in Arvada. It will supply the beer for Yak & Yeti’s two other locations, the original restaurant in Westminster and the event center in South Denver. Growlers are available at the brewpub . Spice Trade’s canned beers will be distributed in the Denver Metro area later this year.

Spice Trade produces unique beer styles inspired by culinary ingredients and traditions from around the world. “The Yak & Yeti beer has always taken a little bit of inspiration from the culinary world,” says Tyler, who joined the Yak & Yeti team in summer 2016 as Head Brewer, “but this will be the main focus of our beer going forward as we unveil the Spice Trade brand. Lone Tree Brewing Company Reports Production Numbers and Other Milestones, Announces Upcoming Rebrand in 2016 Year In Review

LONE TREE, CO —  In 2016, Lone Tree Brewing Company welcomed a new head brewer, added two states outside of Colorado to its distribution footprint, underwent major expansion, and launched the Branching Out bomber series, among other business milestones.

Here is Lone Tree Brewing’s 2016 Year In Review —

In January 2016, Lone Tree announced its New Head brewer Josh West. Most notably the creator of the 2015 GABF® Silver Medal Winning Summer Siesta Mexican Lager, West has worked at the brewery since 2012. Throughout the year, he reinvigorated the small batch pilot program for experimental beers, introduced new seasonal offerings, and even tweaked some of Lone Tree’s flagship recipes.

In March 2016, Lone Tree purchased a new bottling line (affectionately named Barack Obomber) that gave way to the Branching Out Series, a series of experimental, limited quantity beers in 22-ounce bombers. This lineup of beers includes Cranberry Saison, Triple IPA, and Arctic Spice Old Ale.

Also in spring of 2016, Lone Tree began out-of-state distribution. Lone Tree’s canned flagship beers— Acres O'Green Irish Red, Hoptree Double IPA, Mountain Mama Helles, and Peach Pale Ale— are now available in select liquor stores, bars, and restaurants in Kansas and Nebraska.

In July 2016, Lone Tree nearly doubled its number of seats when it completed the expansion of its tasting room and outdoor patio. The new seating area, known as the West Wing, sports a massive indoor bocce ball court, big screen TVs, and board games. The West Wing has ample space for booking meetings and special events.

In December 2016, Lone Tree Brewing celebrated its fifth anniversary with a weekend of special events and tappings.

Lone Tree brewed more than 2,000 barrels of beer in 2016. Throughout the year the brewery raised more than $10,000 for nonprofit organizations.

Lone Tree Brewing has new beers in store for the Branching Out series in 2017, as well as a significant rebrand that includes a new logo and a fresh lineup of can and bomber artwork. Keep an eye out for Lone Tree’s new look in coming months.

Barrels & Bottles Brewery Announces New Head Brewer Cory Carvatt

GOLDEN, CO — Barrels & Bottles Brewery is proud to announce Cory Carvatt as its new Head Brewer. Carvatt joined the company in November 2015, and has since created several new beers that are now Barrels & Bottles in-house staples like the Orange Creamsicle Ale, a Blonde Ale brewed with orange peel and vanilla beans.

Carvatt came to Barrels & Bottles Brewery from the brewing team by way of beertending staff at Dry Dock Brewing Company. While brewing there he attended the American Brewer's Guild.

“I fell in love with wine and beer while working for my parents at their liquor store,” says Carvatt. “Left with the opportunity to go to New Zealand to work a summer internship at a wine vineyard or interview for a beertending gig at Dry Dock, I decided beer was my future.”

Dry Dock Brewing Company Announces New Head Brewers

AURORA, CO— Dry Dock Brewing Company is pleased to announce new head brewers at each of its locations. Tim Evon is now at the helm of South Dock, Dry Dock’s original location on East Hampden Avenue, and Alan Simons is running the ship at North Dock, Dry Dock’s production brewhouse and facility on I-70 and Tower Road.

Tim Evon started homebrewing in Utah, where he worked at The Beer Nut homebrew supply shop in Salt ake City before joining the brewing team at Bohemian Brewery. He received the Master Brewer Certification from the World Brewing Academy through Siebel Institute of Technology, and finally landed in Colorado as a brewer at Dry Dock in 2012. He took over South Dock’s brewing operations in March 2015.

Alan Simons also began his brewing career as a homebrewer and proudly purchased his supplies from The Brew Hut. He moved to Summit County in 2008 and started brewing professionally at Backcountry Brewery in Frisco. He became Backcountry’s head brewer eight months later, and worked there for seven years. During that time, Backcountry Brewery won a silver Great American Beer Festival® medal for its May Bock and another silver GABF® medal for its Saison du Summer (now called Imperial Saison).

The Brew Hut Celebrates 20 Years In Business

AURORA, CO— The Brew Hut, Aurora’s homebrew shop, is celebrating its 20th anniversary next month. The shop was founded by homebrewer Scott Newcomb, who wanted to create a one-stop shop for fellow hobbyists. “There were 14 homebrew supply shops in the area when I opened up The Brew Hut, but in order to put one recipe together I had to go to three or four of them to get all the ingredients,” Newcomb says. “That was the main purpose of The Brew Hut— to give people exactly what they needed for each brew. And to provide the best customer service.” 

To-date, The Brew Hut does just that. As the largest homebrew supply shop in Colorado, it gives homebrewers exactly what they need for each brew and it’s well-known for its knowledgeable and friendly customer service. Its legacy has been carried on by current owners Kevin DeLange and Michelle Reding, who purchased The Brew Hut from Newcomb in 2002.

“When Michelle and Kevin came along, they loved the growth we’d already had. When they purchased The Brew Hut, Kevin and I sat in the back and he asked me if I were to keep the business how would I grow it? I told him I would knock out the wall next door and open a craft brewery,” Newcomb says. “They took that idea and ran with it. I couldn’t be happier that it grew the way that it did.”

Join Scott Newcomb, who is flying to Colorado from Florida where he’s currently opening a craft brewery, at The Brew Hut to celebrate its 20th anniversary on June 6 from 11am to 3pm. Guests are encouraged to bring their homemade beer, wine, cider, mead, cheese, and more to share with fellow homebrewers. They can also taste The Brew Hut’s employee homebrew showcase, purchase commemorative Brew Hut t-shirts and posters, and enjoy 20 percent off discounts on select merchandise. In honor of its sister business, Dry Dock Brewing Company is brewing The Brew Hut’s Anniversary Beer using a new, experimental hop variety from the Hallertau and Tettnang growing regions of Germany called Mandarina Bavaria. These hops create a sweet, fruity aroma with strong notes of tangerine. Barrels & Bottles Brewery Celebrates its Grand Opening in Golden


GOLDEN, CO— Barrels & Bottles Brewery, Golden’s newest brewery and pub, celebrates its grand opening tomorrow Friday, September 20th at 5 p.m. The new tap room at 600 12th Street will be serving half pours of its very limited first batches, including a German rye ale and a blond ale made by head brewer Shaun Salyards.


In addition to Shaun’s beers, Barrels & Bottles is debuting with 17 guest taps, and 24 kinds of wine on tap. “We’re creating a tap list that reflects who we feel are under-represented in this area,” says Shaun. Barrels & Bottles is Equinox Brewing’s first non-Fort Collins account and Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Projects first account in Golden. 


The new bar also boasts one of the state’s only fusion towers that infuses beer with fresh hops, coffees, and other botanicals to enhance aromas. 


After this weekend, the new pub will launch its small plates menu that will be handcrafted from scratch by co-owner Abigail Schuh George. She and her husband Zachary George moved to Colorado in 2012 with Barrels & Bottles in mind. They spent their first few years in the state touring countless Colorado breweries and attending festivals like Odell’s Small Batch Fest where they met their head brewer. 


Barrels & Bottles also offers a variety of bulk olive oils and vinegars for sale. Much like a growler fill, you can return with your empty bottle for eco-friendly refills. 


The Barrels & Bottles bar was built out of old doors and barrel staves from Rocky Mountain Barrel Company, and all of the barstools and tables in the tap room are reclaimed. Even the water station is built out of an old barrel. One of their walls sports a glass panel from their front windows slated for brewery stickers.
